The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is the southernmost nation in the Caribbean. It is 11 miles of the coast of northeastern Venezuela, and therefore boasts flora and fauna indicitive of both the Caribbean and South America. This makes it a fascinating place to study.
Tobago is actually an island unto itself, off the northeastern corner of Trinidad proper.
The Country’s official language is English, with influences from Ameridian, European, African, and Asian heritage. This island is the most developed national and one of the wealthiest in the Caribbean, primarily due to its production of oil and gas. This has resulted in the development of large cities, including the capital of the nation, Port of Spain.
While some of the area is developed in this manner, much of the island is still represented by nearly untouched nature. The eastern edge of the island has many small towns, including the town of Toco:
Toco will serve as a base of operations for the duration of the study abroad trip. Students will develop and carry out research projects in the field for approximately two weeks, resulting in a paper ready for publication. The rest of the time will be spent visiting important historical, natural, and cultural sites around the island.
